Semiconductor Processing/Fabrication Engineer

Job Description

ATA is seeking a Semiconductor Processing/Fabrication Engineer in support to the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Advanced Technology (SVAT) contract. The engineer will be an integral member of a joint Government and contractor team that operates in a very dynamic environment. The engineer will support characterization and fabrication of novel infrared optoelectronic systems. The selected individual will support molecular beam epitaxy growth of these materials at Kirtland AFB by providing on-site characterization that informs the growth experiment and processing of grown material into single element devices, process evaluation chips, and focal plane arrays for evaluation of high-level device and system properties. The work performed is expected to yield publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentations at academic conferences. In addition, the engineer may be required to assist on other Space Vehicles Advanced Technology (SVAT) contract-related tasks as needed.

Essential Functions: 

  • - Characterization of semiconductor material and device samples by X-ray diffraction, Nomarski
     
      imaging, Hall, scanning electron microscopy, and steady-state and time-resolved photolumin-
     
      escence spectroscopy

  • - Reporting of characterization results to growth experiments

  • - Processing of samples into single element devices, process evaluation chips, and focal plane
     
      array devices

Physical Demands: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.
 

Travel: 

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • - Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering (Electrical, Materials) or Physics from an accredited
     
      four-year university

  • - >1 year experience in semiconductor cleanroom facility

  • - U.S. Citizen able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Security Clearance

  • - Electrical circuit test and troubleshooting experience

  • - Identification of required support equipment and infrastructure items

  • - Good organizational skills and ability to work independently, seeking support from team
     
      members when required

  • - Some work is to be done in a laboratory environment.

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • - Master’s degree in relevant Engineering (Electrical, Materials) or Physics from an accredited
     
      four-year university

  • - Cleanroom experience with arsenide- and antimonide-based material systems

  • - Experience with X-ray diffraction, Hall, and photoluminescence spectroscopy equipment and data
     
      analysis
