Electro-Mechanical Assembler

Job Description

We currently have an opportunity for a precision-oriented ELECTRO-MECHANICAL ASSEMBLER at Applied Technology Associates (ATA). This is a full-time hourly position involving the building of various assemblies and sub-assemblies that form the initial components used in our products. Many of these assemblies are composed of small parts and must be assembled using a microscope. Many times these assemblies will include electronics parts/boards and/or electronic cables. The applicant would also be expected to perform other tasks to facilitate the production and processing of precision-built ATA components and systems. The successful candidate must ensure that quality, cost, and production goals are met by working closely with others in your work group.

Essential Functions: 

This is not an entry-level position – applicants are expected to display previous precision assembly experience working with small, fragile precision parts, along with general knowledge of electrical and mechanical assembly processes and procedures.

  • - Able to accurately read and follow assembly instructions, and other related documentation

  • - Perform work according to procedures and specifications experience and ability to use
      various mechanical/hand tools and soldering irons without instruction

  • - Ability to use precision calibrated tools – torque wrenches, micrometers and calipers

  • - Derive insights from current operations to recommend organizational improvements in all
      phases of supply chain and program management

  • - Ensure material is managed properly and ready for internal and external system audits

  • - Demonstrated math skills to carry out basic calculations and measurements

  • - Ability to work with small parts and hand tools under a microscope for extended periods
      of time

  • - Ability to possess a J-standard or equivalent certification in soldering

  • - Prior training and experience with ESD procedures and protocols

  • - Ability to quickly learn and apply specific assembly techniques

  • - Basic computer skills

  • - Ability to collaborate with engineers to develop and document activities

  • - Perform work duties on time, safely and in a professional manner

  • - Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient
      and effective work environment

Work Environment: 

This job operates in professional/secure office and laboratory environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines and other equipment as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are nominally Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Travel is primarily local during the business day.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • - High School diploma/GED and 3+ years of experience

  • - U.S. Citizen, able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Security Clearance

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • - Associate’s degree or comparable experience
