Jr. Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

ATA is seeking an entry-level mechanical engineer or someone with similar design and hands-on experience to provide mechanical engineering support to diverse R&D programs and small-volume high-tech production contracts. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong critical thinking skills, demonstrated self-starter characteristics, and be capable of designing and assembling mechanical hardware based on general directions from Senior Engineers. The ideal candidate will be very hands-on and comfortable working in both office and laboratory settings.

Essential Functions: 

  • - Assists with mechanical design, drafting, fabrication and assembly of high tech custom

  • - Assists with analysis of various components (structural analysis, thermal analysis, etc.)

  • - Assists with assembly and test of various sensors, mechanisms, and optical systems

  • - Strong hands-on capability is required for this position

  • - Assists with writing procedures, reports, etc. and with the presentation of mechanical

  • - Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to learn new tasks quickly

  • - Ability to work on a single project or multiple projects simultaneously

  • - Ability to adapt between research and development programs and those with significant QA

  • - Strong hands-on aptitude required for assembly of precision mechanisms

  • - Ability to operate machine shop equipment (mill, lathe, etc.) is desirable

  • - Written and verbal communication skills

Required Education and Experience: 

  • - Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • - Basic experience with CAD software including mechanical design and drawings

  • - Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Security Clearance

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of a 1-year internship

  • - Experience with SolidWorks™ modeling software

  • - Basic experience with finite element analysis software and methods

  • - Experience with data acquisition and processing hardware and software

  • - Hands-on experience with precision electro-mechanical assembly and test work

  • - Ability to work on R&D projects as well as production projects simultaneously

  • - Ability to work independently or as part of a small team

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Minimal travel may be required (<1 week per year)
