Astronomical Research Scientist

Job Description

ATA is seeking applicants to serve as an Astronomical Research Scientist for the Advanced Electro-Optical and Infrared (EOIR) sensors program and to be an integral member of a joint Government and contractor team that operates in a very dynamic environment. The successful candidate must possess at least ten (10) years of experience in advanced electro-optical telescopes and sensors.

Essential Functions: 

  • - Scientific research and development for several state-of-the-art electro-optical systems focused
     
      at the Space Situational Awareness (SSA) mission area

  • - Ability to provide technical guidance and lead a team of engineers and scientists

Required: 

  • - Graduate degree in an engineering/scientific (e.g. Astronomy) discipline from an accredited four-
     
      year university

  • - Experience in design, fabrication, operations, and testing of telescopes and Electro-Optical
     
      Infrared (EOIR) sensors

  • - Experience with systems engineering of advanced electro-optic (EO) and infrared (IR) sensor
     
      systems

  • - Active Department of Defense security clearance

Preferred: 

  • - Doctorate degree in engineering/scientific (e.g. Astronomy) discipline from an accredited four-
     
      year university

  • - Current access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Programs

  • - Experience with Systems Engineering techniques and applications implemented on Department of
     
      Defense and National Systems
