Embedded Software Engineer

Job Description

ATA is currently building a multi-disciplinary engineering team to support the development of embedded processing systems for both commercial and DoD applications. Our primary focus involves the application of state-of-the art, FPGA and System-On-Chip (SOC) devices to high performance video processing, adaptive optics, laser communications, imaging sensors, and a wide range of real-time control systems for inertial measurement units, fast steering mirrors, and stabilized telescopes. ATA is looking for qualified candidates who are interested in working within a small, agile, innovative team and who share a strong desire to create a work environment that is highly collaborative, rewarding and fun.

The successful candidate will serve as a software engineer and systems architect within ATA’s embedded systems group. The initial, core responsibility of this position will be to support acquisition, tracking and pointing system development, integration and field test. ATA is seeking applicants with creative approaches and software design expertise that will enable our embedded team to rapidly develop applications within SOC devices and directly support our customers. ATA is also seeking candidates who possess the interest to develop and apply a rounded skill set while working on a diverse range of applications. As such, secondary responsibilities will include assisting in the design and engineering of miniature electronics as well as the implementation of and testing of algorithms hosted on these miniature electronics.

CONUS travel required, as needed, for design reviews and field test events.


  • - Minimum Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science with
      10 years of experience in a relevant embedded systems or software engineering position

  • - Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance

  • - Extensive experience with C and C++ development in embedded RTOS environments

  • - Experience with MATLAB

  • - Experience with electrical schematic review

  • - Experience with hardware troubleshooting in a lab environment (e.g. oscilloscopes, logic

  • - Experience with revision control systems such as Git, Mercurial, or Subversion


  • - Master of Science in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science

  • - Experience as a project lead

  • - A history of successful customer interaction in the office and in the field

  • - Image processing experience

  • - Experience with precision pointing, beam control and directed energy systems

  • - Experience implementing digital control systems

  • - Experience with scripting languages (TCL)

  • - Experience with Java GUI development (JavaFX)

  • - Experience with Xilinx reconfigurable devices (SoCs, FPGAs, CPLDs) and design tools
      (ISE, Vivado, System Generator)

  • - Current U.S. DoD security Clearance
