Network Modeling and Simulation Engineer

Job Description

ATA is currently supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory in a variety of areas related to space communications. One of these areas is network modeling and simulation of heterogeneous communication platforms, including ground, air, and space systems, over a variety of radio frequency and optical communication links. ATA is looking for qualified candidates to provide modeling and simulation of these networks including transceiver characteristics (RF and optical), atmospheric transmission characteristics, dynamic node acquisition, link termination, optimal packet routing (in this dynamic environment), and verification against experimental data.

The successful candidate will serve as the network modeling and simulation engineer within AFRL/ATA’s Space Communications team to create and evaluate a variety of network modeling and simulation approaches and could be asked to contribute to the group’s other projects. The current projects focus on three areas in communications. The primary area is the development of a reference design for a heterogeneous communication system that will allow communications to any compatible system. The second area is RF communication links whether point-to-point or ad-hoc. The third area is optical communication links. Our work explores a variety of tools with MATLAB, the primary simulation tool. The candidate will also work with the team to implement and test the simulation model on the hardware system.

Essential Functions:

  • - Implement and test the simulation model on the hardware system

Required: 

  • - Bachelor of Science in Science or Engineering from an accredited program

  • - U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret level security clearance

  • - Experience with MATLAB

  • - Experience in networking techniques and traffic modeling

  • - Experience with RF and/or optical propagation models

Desired: 

  • - Master of Science in Science or Engineering from an accredited program

  • - Current U.S. DoD Secret level security clearance

  • - Experience building traffic models for communication systems

  • - Experience with packet switching designs and models

  • - Experience with RF and/or optical communications terminals and links

  • - Experience in data integrity and secure encoding
