Software Engineer

Job Description

ATA is currently supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory in a variety of areas related to space communications. One of these areas is next generation communication systems and heterogeneous networking. ATA is looking for qualified candidates to lead the software design and development efforts in heterogeneous communications systems integrating directly connected, RF, and optical links on ground, air, and space platforms.

The successful candidate will serve as software engineer for the research and development efforts and may be asked to contribute to the group’s other efforts. The current project focus is on developing an extensible communications architecture. Multiple networking concepts will be required to create an extensible architecture including networking protocols, network routing, mesh networking, and protocol conversion. Our work explores a variety of tools for exploring networking concepts such as MATLAB for link simulation, SOAP for orbit analysis and simulation, and future networking protocols like NDN. The candidate will also work with the team to implement and test prototypes on experimental hardware systems.

Essential Functions:

  • - Network modeling and simulation of heterogeneous communication platforms over a variety of
radio frequency and optical communication links

  • - Model verification against experimental data

  • - Implement and test the simulation model on the hardware system

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • - Bachelor of Science in Science or Engineering from an accredited program

  • - U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret level security clearance

  • - Experience with networking protocols and network routing

  • - Experience with the Linux networking stack

  • - Experience with a variety of programming languages including C++, Java, and MATLAB

  • - Master of Science in Science or Engineering from an accredited program

  • - Current U.S. DoD Secret level security clearance

  • - Experience with using SOAP, Orekit, and NASA World Wind to build networking simulations

  • - Experience creating network protocol conversion to allow heterogeneous systems to

  • - Experience with the concepts of mesh and mobile ad-hoc networking
