Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

ATA is seeking a junior level mechanical engineer to provide end-to-end mechanical engineering support to diverse R&D programs and small-volume high-tech production contracts. The candidate would initially understudy and team with senior mechanical engineers in the areas of mechanical design, analysis, drafting, overseeing the fabrication of mechanical parts, and assembling, or overseeing the assembly of high tech custom hardware. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with strong creative and critical thinking skills; the desire to eventually be a lead mechanical engineer on projects as well as contribute to technical proposal writing, customer interactions, etc. The ideal candidate would be able to quickly adapt to various types of work, and would quickly learn new skills, analysis methods, etc. while supporting a diverse range of contracts. The candidate must be able to adapt between research oriented (technology development) contracts and the rigorous processes & procedures associated with building space qualified or production hardware. The candidate must also be able to work individually or as part of a team environment.


  • - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (0-5 years of experience)

  • - Experience with CAD software including mechanical design and drawings

  • - Ability to quickly adapt to various different projects and types of work

  • - Ability to apply good judgment to guide the design and analysis process

  • - Ability to work on R&D projects as well as production projects simultaneously

  • - Ability to work independently or as part of a small team

  • - Must be able to attain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance (Note a
      clearance will not be required initially, but may be required in the future)


  • - Experience with SolidWorks modeling software

  • - Basic experience with finite element analysis software and methods

  • - Basic experience with Matlab or other programing/data analysis software

  • - Demonstrated communication skills (technical writing, presentation, etc.)

  • - Demonstrated leadership skills
