Electrical Engineer or Physicist - Radiometric and Radiation Tolerance Characterization of Detectors

Job Description

ATA is seeking a self-motivated, productive, results-oriented Electrical Engineer or Physicist to perform characterization of visible through long-wavelength infrared detectors and materials in a fast-paced, highly-agile, team environment. Characterization methods before and after irradiation include dark current-voltage, photocurrent-voltage, capacitance-voltage, spectral photoresponse, quantum efficiency, time-resolved microwave reflectance decay, deep-level transient spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, and noise spectroscopy. The candidate directly contributes to and eventually leads bench-level experimental research associated with advancing visible through long-wavelength infrared detectors and focal plane arrays. The candidate combines overall scientific knowledge, semiconductor physics concepts, practical electrical and mechanical experimental skills, and thorough data analysis to ascertain the technical feasibility of new sensor materials and technologies. ATA desires applicants who want to pursue advanced degrees in electrical engineering or physics.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • - Performing characterization of visible light through long-wavelength infrared detectors and
     
      materials

  • - Applying knowledge of characterization methods before and after irradiation including dark
     
      current-voltage, photocurrent-voltage, capacitance-voltage, spectral photo-response,
     
      quantum efficiency, time-resolved microwave reflectance decay, deep-level transient
     
      spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy,
     
      and noise spectroscopy

  • - Directly contributing to and eventually leading bench-level experimental research associated with
     
      advancing visible through long-wavelength infrared detectors and focal plane arrays

Required Education/Skills: 

  • - Minimum of Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Material Science
     
      Engineering, or related field

  • - GPA 3.5 or greater

  • - Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • - Strong problem solving, organizational, and communication skills

  • - Semiconductor physics concepts, specifically relating to optoelectronic detectors

  • - Digital and analog electrical circuit design and debugging skills

  • - Familiarity with radiometry calculations

  • - Familiarity with source meters, capacitance meters, lock-in amplifiers, Fourier transform infrared
     
      spectrometers, black body sources, lasers, optics

  • - Hands-on electrical and mechanical interfacing skills

  • - Working knowledge of cryogenics and cryogenic systems

  • - Software: MATLAB, LabVIEW, C++, Visual Basic
