Security Specialist

Job Description

The specialist will serve as a Security Specialist in support to an Air Force Research Laboratory contract. The specialist will be an integral member of a joint Government and contractor team that operates in a very dynamic environment. The specialist’s duties will span development of security processes and policies for government facilities to include Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs); participate in government security inspections, reviews and assessment and conduct self-inspections; maintain accountability systems for classified material and ensure appropriate protection of controlled unclassified information; interpret security classification guides and implement their use; receive, implement and issue DD 254, Contract Security Classification Specification(s); maintain knowledge skills of government security software such as JPAS, DIAS, Scattered Castles, SIMS and others; implement and execute special requirements e.g. OPSEC, TEMPEST, TSCM etc.; formulate and implement security plans and procedures for all aspects of the security program; be responsible for accredited information systems including accreditation, audits, training sanitization and decertification; and may serve as a COMSEC Custodian. Secondarily, the specialist may be required to assist on other tasks as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • - Interpret security classification guides and implement their use

  • - Implement and execute special requirements e.g. OPSEC, TEMPEST, TSCM etc.

  • - Responsible for accredited information systems including accreditation, audits, training

  • - May serve as a COMSEC Custodian

  • - Other tasks as needed

Required Education/Skills: 

  • - Minimum High School Diploma

  • - Must to be able to obtain a Department of Defense Top Secret Security Clearance

  • - Experience working in secure areas

  • - Experience with computer systems

  • - Knowledgeable and aware of Executive Orders, applicable Code of Federal Regulations, the
     
      National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual, Orders, ICD's and other applicable
     
      regulations and requirements that pertain to the National Industrial Security Program

  • - Experience in one or more of the following: Classification marking and declassification review;
     
      counterintelligence; credibility assessment; force protection; foreign intelligence; foreign travel
     
      and disclosure; identification badge processing; industrial security; information security;
     
      investigations; operations security; personnel security; Sensitive Compartmented Information
     
      Facility (SCIF) accreditation and management; security education training and awareness;
     
      security policy, strategy and programs; Special Access Program (SAP) administration; security
     
      briefings/debriefings, threat management and mitigation

  • - Require minimum oversight to accomplish directed tasks

  • - Must be self-motivated and a self-starter

  • - Must be an excellent team player

  • - Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • - Current TS/SCI clearance or adjudication within the last 2 years

  • - Demonstrated leadership experience
